About

Meet Mercer: Your Expert Guide to Confident Feeding.

I'm Mercer Wilcock, an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and Registered Midwife in British Columbia and breastfeeding mother of five children. I am dedicated to helping families find comfort and joy in their feeding journey. I believe that every parent deserves to feel confident and every baby deserves gentle, effective support. My practice is built on a foundation of clinical knowledge, deep empathy, and the understanding that parenting is rarely linear. I am here to listen without judgment and provide clear, actionable plans so you can stop worrying and start enjoying your new baby.

My Unique Clinical Background

More Than Just an IBCLC.

My approach to lactation support is enriched by my years of clinical practice. I am an IBCLC, which is the highest level of certification in professional lactation care. Furthermore, I am a Midwife in British Columbia and former (non-practising) Ontario Midwife. This means I have a rare, comprehensive understanding of maternal health, birth physiology, and newborn transition.

This experience gives me a broader perspective on the challenges new families face, allowing me to provide an exceptionally thorough and holistic consultation that goes beyond basic latch mechanics. My goal is always to treat the whole family, providing you with a safe space and unparalleled expertise.

Why Choose an IBCLC?

When you are navigating the challenges of those early days, you deserve more than just "tips"—you deserve clinical expertise and compassionate care. Choosing an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) ensures you are working with the highest credentialed professional in the field of human lactation.

Here is why working with a specialized practitioner makes the difference:

Advanced Clinical Expertise

As an IBCLC and former Registered Midwife, I provide a deep level of clinical assessment that goes beyond basic breastfeeding advice. I perform thorough physical exams of both parent and baby to identify the root cause of feeding issues.

Evidence-Based Solutions

IBCLCs are trained to provide care rooted in the latest health research, ensuring your feeding plan is safe, effective, and tailored to your specific medical history.

Urgent, Reliable Support

My practice is built on the understanding that feeding challenges don't wait. I offer a 24-hour guarantee for urgent home visits because immediate help can be the deciding factor in meeting your breastfeeding goals.

Complex Case Management

From managing low milk supply and mastitis to navigating PCOS or thyroid-related supply issues, an IBCLC is equipped to handle complex medical factors that impact lactation.

Judgment-Free Empowerment

My goal is to reduce your anxiety and give you the tools to feed your baby with confidence, respecting your unique journey and personal goals every step of the way.

My Philosophy of Care

Nurturing Care, Clinical Clarity.

I know that when you're overwhelmed, you need clarity, not complication. My philosophy centres on three things:

01

Clinical Excellence

Using the latest evidence-based research to diagnose and treat feeding challenges effectively.

02

Compassion and Warmth

Creating a warm and approachable environment where you feel seen, heard, and supported, whether we meet in your London home or virtually across British Columbia.

03

Empowerment

Providing you with the tools, resources, and confidence to succeed long after our visit is over. You are the expert on your baby, and I am here to guide you.

Advanced Expertise for Complex Needs

My comprehensive clinical background means I specialize in supporting families with high-stakes feeding challenges:

01

Oral Function Assessments

Thorough evaluation of latch dynamics and suspected oral restrictions (e.g., tethered oral tissues/tongue ties).

02

Low Milk Supply Protocols

Creating individualized and evidence-based strategies for supply building and management.

03

Post-Partum Mood and Anxiety Support

Integrating feeding solutions with essential emotional support to reduce maternal stress.

I am here to support you.
